Su Ecenia makes paintings that are political as well as process-oriented. Often employing a maximalist aesthetic, Ecenia embeds figuration in a complex patterning of symbolic imagery. Her works are ongoing social commentaries of world affairs as well as critiques of contemporary power structures. She is specifically drawn to social justice issues involving mass incarceration, immigration, income inequality, and the effects of climate change as it impacts humans, the environment and political decision making. To this end, she currently views her paintings as falling into these categories: Health; Social Justice; Conflict; and the Environment.
